Web Mail Provider: SPAM Filtering Effectiveness Research

Objective

The objective of this research study was to compare the SPAM filtering capabilities of Microsoft Hotmail, Google Gmail, and Yahoo! Mail to determine the effectiveness of SPAM filtering for each provider. The key measurements for this research are the quantity and percentage of SPAM in the inbox


Executive Summary

Leading Web mail providers use sophisticated SPAM filtering mechanisms to keep unsolicited email messages out of user inboxes. Microsoft Hotmail and Google Gmail are approximately equally effective at filtering out SPAM, and substantially more so than Yahoo! Mail. All three providers reduce SPAM compared to unfiltered accounts.
